Water fluoridation prevents tooth decay
January 26, 2010

The Centers For Disease Control has recognized water fluoridation as one of the 10 great public health achievements of the 20th century.

Since community water fluoridation began in 1945, it has been demonstrated to be a safe and cost-effective way to prevent tooth decay. Fluoridation protects teeth in two ways:

  • When delivered through the water supply to children during the tooth forming years.

  • Through direct contact with teeth throughout life.
