Support Medicaid reform-CALL NOW! June 4, 2010
Current audit procedures at the Office of Medicaid Inspector General
(OMIG) are abusive, unfair to honest providers and need to be
reformed. Assembly bill 10630-C, sponsored by
Assemblyman Richard Gottfried (or Senate bill S7821-A sponsored by Senator Craig
Johnson), gives Medicaid providers constitutionally protected rights of due process and keeps intact the state's authority to find and prosecute cases of
fraud.
Please call your state legislators urging them to make comprehensive OMIG reform a top priority during budget negotiations. Talking Points
- This bill is important to me as a dentist (or Medicaid provider) and to people
in your district.
- I strongly support
the state's efforts to find and prosecute Medicaid fraud, but with the exception of fraud cases, no government agency should be allowed to withhold money from a provider until an audit result is
final.
- OMIG has used minor technicalities as the
basis of huge monetary penalties that threaten the practices of honest providers.
- OMIG should not be allowed to re-interpret
other agencies' regulations.
- Providers who comply with agency regulations
should not be penalized by another.
- This bill
gives providers constitutionally protected rights of due process and at
the same
time keeps intact the state's authority to find and prosecute cases of
fraud.
- Unless the Legislature takes
action, Medicaid recipients could lose services they need.
- Can I count on you to
make this a priority? Will you talk to your leadership to insist that your
conference makes it a priority in the final budget?
