 ates today\, approximately 5-10 % of the population seeks care for a tempo
 romandibular disorder (TMD) making it the second most common musculoskelet
 al problem after back pain. As a result\, patients are often presenting to
  dental offices with jaw related problems asking for advice and or treatme
 nt to address their symptoms. Attendees will leave this lecture with an un
 derstanding of why TMDs commonly occur\, who seeks care and why outcomes c
 an be very much improved when patients are empowered to be active particip
 ants in the process of getting better. The goal of helping patients feel "
 better'  and understanding  the limitations of care will be discussed as t

 ve training and over three decades of experience make him uniquely qualifi
 ed to diagnose and treat facial pain\, TMJ/TMD\, muscle pain disorders\, n
 erve pain disorders\, tension headaches\, snoring\, and sleep apnea.  As a
  result of this professional focus\, he assumed leadership positions withi
 n the American Academy of Orofacial Pain (AAOP) and is a past president. H
 e remains involved in AAOPs mentorship programs.Dr. John Dinan is a Board-
 Certified Orofacial Pain Specialist. He has dedicated his professional car
 eer to the treatment of TMJ conditions and other orofacial pains. A 10-yea
 r veteran of the United States Air Force\, Dr. Dinan completed his Orofaci
 al Pain training at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.Dr. Aimee
  Werfel is a licensed general dentist who has pursued specialized training
  in Orofacial Pain. Having completed the Orofacial Pain Continuing Educati
 on Program sponsored by Rutgers School of Dental Medicine and extensive ho
 urs of continued education\, she has displayed a growing competence in the
