Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement Seeks Dentists' Help Improving PMP Registry

As of August 2013, practitioners have been required to check the Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP) Registry prior to writing a prescription for a schedule II, III, and IV controlled substance for a patient. The PMP Registry provides practitioners with direct, secure access to their patients’ recent controlled substance prescription history, to help them better evaluate a patient’s treatment as it pertains to controlled substance prescribing and dispensing.

The NYS Department of Health’s Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement (BNE) is currently working on a project to improve the utility of the PMP Registry. As part of that effort, a Morphine Milligram Equivalents (MME) Calculator has been developed, which can be accessed via the navigation bar within the PMP Registry. In order to gather information about providers’ anticipated use of the MME Calculator, the BNE has developed a web-based survey.

The survey offers an opportunity for providers who use the PMP Registry to provide feedback in a format that will only take 10 minutes. Participants will receive a report of the survey findings after BNE analysis.
