There are three items of interest to dentistry on the December 2019 New York State Board of Regents meeting agenda: 1) the final Regents and New York State Education Department [NYSED] 2020 State Budget and legislative priorities; 2) the final 2020 Regents and NYSED regulatory agenda; and 3) the reappointment of Dr. Ronald Kosinski [New York County] to a second and final five year term on the New York State Board for Dentistry. The Regents/NYSED legislative and State Budget priorities include requiring licensees to answer health workforce and practice survey questions as part of the license renewal process, expanding Office of Professional Discipline (OPD) authority, and $25.39 million in funding for electronic professional licensing. The Regents/NYSED regulatory agenda includes adding dental anesthesia as a specialty qualifying for meeting residency program requirements for licensure.
