NYSDOH Issues Medicaid Dental EHR Audit Hearing Decision

The New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) has issued a Medicaid dental electronic health record (EHR) audit hearing decision in the matter of Dr. Carmen Arzola, holding that the New York State Office of the Medicaid Inspector General (OMIG) was entitled to recover a $21,250 EHR incentive payment because the dentist had not adopted a properly certified EHR system.  The case is interesting in its discussion of who is recognized as a properly certified EHR system provider and that EHR system providers who confuse or mislead dentists are not the entities responsible for repaying the Medicaid EHR incentive payment – the liable party is the dentist.  This is another in a long line of hearing decisions adverse to dentists on this subject.  To read the complete NYSDOH Medicaid dental EHR audit hearing decision against Dr. Arzola, use the link below.
