Update on Vaccine Recommendations

When elected, Dr. Ratner promised to provide you, our members, with a steady stream of information responsive to your concerns. Currently, we know we are all seeking clarification about the COVID-19 mRNA vaccines that are likely to be approved shortly by the FDA for Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) and anticipated to be ready for distribution this month.

We understand that it is important that you know when dentists can receive and administer the vaccine. As of today, December 3, we know that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) vaccine committee has prioritized healthcare workers to be among the first group to receive the vaccine. We do not know where dentists fall within the healthcare provider group. The American Dental Association (ADA) and New York State Dental Association (NYSDA) strongly believe that dentists should be in the highest priority group, 1a. The final approval of the CDC recommendations are due out tomorrow; we will inform you as soon as we have any additional information.

NYSDA and the ADA are monitoring the COVID-19 vaccine recommendations as they are shared by the CDC. NYSDA continues to communicate with the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) about the importance of a high priority for all dental personnel.

NYSDA will continue to keep you updated on Twitter, Facebook and the NYSDA website.
