Governor Hochul Announces New Regulation to Protect Consumers Who Relied on Incorrect Provider Network Information

All healthcare insurers are required to provide accurate network status directory information. The New York State Department of Financial Services (DFS) has recently issued new regulations that require stand-alone dental and vision insurers to meet the same provider network disclosure requirements as comprehensive health insurers and to apply the same patient out-of-pocket payment protection rules when the insurer gives a patient inaccurate provider directory information.

In a press release issued on December 7, 2022, Governor Kathy Hochul stated the new DFS regulation fulfills the State of the State commitment to protecting consumers from surprise costs.
