Message from NYSDA President Maurice Edwards, DMD
It’s a privilege to lead an organization with such a strong legacy—and an even brighter future. As we look ahead, I want to share the three priorities that will shape my term and, with your help, move our association—and our profession—forward.
Advancing Access to Dental Care
Too many New Yorkers still struggle to access quality oral health. This year, I will be asking the Board to create a "Smiles Across New York" program that will focus on bringing preventive dental care and education directly to schools, senior centers, and underserved communities. It’s about meeting people where they are, making a real impact, and demonstrating NYSDA's commitment to community health.
Workforce Development and Support
We need to invest in the future of our profession—by supporting those just entering the field and sustaining those already in it. Our Dental Career Pipeline & Wellness Initiative will encourage mentorships & scholarships, and create a first-of-its-kind mental health and wellness hub for dental professionals. This could involve lobbying for student loan relief programs, expanding continuing education opportunities, and addressing burnout and mental health concerns in the profession. Because a healthy profession starts with healthy professionals.
