Lecture Description:

Thirty years after the introduction of nickel titanium rotary files, we now have both heat-treated and non-heat treated instruments.  Each type of rotary file exhibits different properties and both have indications for use, as well as limitations. Dr. Koch believes these metallurgy improvements should be employed to their utmost advantage.  Consequently, she has developed a blend technique that combines the advantages of both heat-treated and non-heat treated files into one endodontic technique.

In addition to the intuitive nature of working with a blended technique, this presentation will discuss straight line access, the use of ultrasonics in irrigation protocols, and the many applications of bioceramic technology. Among the bioceramic applications discussed will be: hydraulic condensation, perforation repairs, vital pulp therapy and pediatric use.  Finally, a drill-free post system will be introduced that is completely intuitive.

A very significant aspect of this course is the hands-on workshop, and Dr. Koch is pleased to individually work with all participants. She will make certain that everyone knows how to employ the “Rhythm technique” effectively in all root canal types.  Finally, hydraulic condensation will be experienced by everyone as it is a method that combines the latest in material science with endodontic synchronicity thereby resulting in a truly passive, bonded root canal obturation.

At the conclusion of this course, participants will:

  • Learn how rotary file design influences instrumentation safety and efficiency.
  • Comprehend the advantages of heat-treated files and how best to use them.
  • Discover the most effective instrument motion for shaping root canals.
  • Fully understand the need to combine the latest technology with long established, evidence-based endodontic principles.
  • Completely understand the need to utilize piezoelectric ultrasonics in both access and three-dimensional irrigation.
  • Be able to perform hydraulic condensation
  • Understand that “The restoration of the tooth starts at the apex.
