Class Description:

This course provides an in-depth look into the complex and often misunderstood field of orofacial pain. Through real-world cases and practical insights, participants will explore common and uncommon pain conditions affecting the head, face, and jaw. Emphasis will be placed on improving diagnostic accuracy, understanding interdisciplinary approaches to care, and recognizing when to refer for specialized evaluation.

 

Learning Objectives: 

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify and differentiate among a range of orofacial pain conditions, including neuropathic, musculoskeletal, and idiopathic disorders.
  2. Describe the diagnostic process and key clinical features associated with common orofacial pain syndromes.
  3. Recognize the role of interdisciplinary care and appropriate referral pathways in managing complex orofacial pain cases.

      Speaker Information: Dr. Lauren Levi

      Lauren E. Levi DMD MS is a board-certified orofacial pain specialist and fellowship-trained dental oncologist who has dedicated her career to treating and managing head, neck and facial pain as well as sleep-related breathing disorders and oral medicine-related conditions. She received her DMD from the University of Florida. She then completed a residency at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, followed by a fellowship in dental oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. After fellowship, Dr. Levi received a master’s degree in oral medicine and orofacial pain from the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry at the University of Southern California. Additionally, she completed advanced training in headache management at Jefferson Health. Prior to joining Touro, Dr. Levi served as a clinical assistant professor at Thomas Jefferson University in the division of orofacial pain where she remains an adjunct clinical assistant professor. She also taught at New York University College of Dentistry and started a dental oncology service at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

      Dr. Asher Mansdorf

      Dr. Asher Mansdorf  is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Dental Medicine at the Touro College of Dental Medicine (TCDM). Board certified by the American Board of Dental Anesthesiology, Dr. Mansdorf currently teaches introductory courses in dentistry and prosthetics as well as a course in endodontics to second year dental students at TCDM. In addition to his current teaching responsibilities, Dr. Mansdorf maintains his own general practice in New York City, which he established in 1983. Dr. Mansdorf has participated in a number of continuing education courses on a number of topics including, but not limited to, implants, digital dentistry and pain management. He is licensed to practice in the state of New York.
