Dental caregivers to members of the Ultra-Orthodox Jewish sect should view their encounters as an opportunity to broaden patients’ understanding of healthcare and illness prevention, areas of knowledge often lacking in this population and possibly impeding their establishing a dental home. But are dentists up to the task? Survey of downstate pediatric dentists and residents uncovered significant variations in how practitioners responded to and interacted with their ultra-orthodox patients.
