NYSDA Applauds Governor Hochul’s $10 Million Investment to Expand Children’s Access to Dental Care

Mar 6, 2026

The Kathy Hochul Administration and the New York State Department of Health recently announced a $10 million investment to expand dental care services at school-based health centers across New York State. The New York State Dental Association (NYSDA) applauds this important step to improve children’s access to dental care, particularly for those in underserved communities.

Expanding access to dental services for children is one of NYSDA’s key priorities. The association has long supported public health policies and initiatives that help ensure children across the state receive the oral health care they need.

In partnership with the New York State Dental Foundation, NYSDA supports school-based dental programs, mobile clinics, and community partnerships designed to reach children who may not otherwise receive regular dental care.

NYSDA members also volunteer their time through programs such as Give Kids A Smile, a national initiative launched by the American Dental Association in 2003. Each year, dentists across New York host events that provide free dental exams, cleanings, fluoride treatments, and oral health education to children in need.

Education and preventive care are essential for lifelong oral health. Dental disease is largely preventable, yet cavities remain the most common chronic disease of childhood—more common than asthma. No child should miss school, struggle to eat, or lose sleep because of untreated dental pain.

NYSDA remains committed to working with policymakers, community partners, and dental professionals statewide to expand access to care and ensure every child has the opportunity for a healthy smile.
