Advocacy in Action: 2025 Wins/2026 Goals
NYSDA is kicking off 2026 by building on key victories from 2025 and advancing legislative priorities that will shape the future of dentistry in New York State. Through persistent advocacy, NYSDA secured several major victories last year:
- Virtual Credit Card (VCC) Bill — Signed Into Law: Dentists now choose how they get paid, ending insurer mandates for costly virtual credit card payments.
- Workers’ Compensation Dental Fee Increase: First increase since 2009, modernizing reimbursement across New York State.
- SUNY Reconnect — Expanding Education Access: Dental hygiene included in free tuition programs for adult learners aged 25–55, strengthening the dental workforce.
- Collaborative Dental Hygiene Practice Bill — Signed Into Law: Dental hygienists can now collaborate with dentists outside traditional hospital settings, expanding access to care in underserved communities.
